When January Arrived

January arrived,

like a floral carriage basking under the sun,

it came with the promise of freshly baked brownies,

with the assurance of hope, and all other things good

but oh I've learnt, not to expect too much

from new years and hope-laced months,

for when I pray for something well,

I only receive dead flowers and news that cuts through my soul

January arrived and distorted

those tiny pockets of December love

and November joy,

January arrived,

and made me crave to go back in time

to lesser chaotic thoughts, and prayers that worked

January arrived

and broke my goddamn heart,

So tell me, where can I go,

how far shall I run,

to reach a place where solace comes easy

and my mind doesn't always feel this heavy?
