Slam Poem: “When I look at our world today” by Arvishka Pramlall
When I look at our world today, I think just maybe we are in most need of humanists that can heal. That maybe we need more doctors who heal not just physical wounds, but those that heal from the heart. That maybe we need more artists that tell stories that touch our hearts, invoke our inner humanity, and spark transformation. Not just accountants that run after pay checks, entrepreneurs that buy into this capitalist system, but activists that dream of a better world, where change is not just a movement but a constant evolving reality. Just maybe, we need more humanitarians that seek to hold the hands of those destitute, black, white, brown, four legged or voiceless . Not more scientists that walk around boastful of their inventions that exploit only more and more of our Earth, not just mathematicians that dwell upon numbers, while we become the statistics of data analysts. Just maybe we need more pacifists that refuse to be toyed around by politicians and say no to violence once and for all. Just maybe, we need a little more love, a little more tolerance, a little more respect, and a little more patience. Or maybe we need the resilience to say that’s enough, and I forgive you. Cause don’t you see, haven’t we caused enough damage, haven’t we hurt each other enough, haven’t we exploited enough, haven’t we stole just enough. Cause maybe, just maybe all we really need now is more with a heart that holds true to humanity. And says its enough, and it stops here now and always.
