When I Grow Up

When I grow up I want to be like a flower Because even if the flower doesn’t do anything It is still loved It is still appreciated Even if the flower doesn’t do anything No one hates it

When I grow up I want to be like a star Because even if the star doesn’t try It still shines So bright that you can’t even look at it with your naked eye Even if the star doesn’t try No one makes it cry

When I grow up I want to be like a leaf Because even if it falls It is still useful Because even if it falls No one calls it a failure

When I grow up I want to be like the ocean Because no matter how dirty it is It’s never considered ugly Because no matter how dirty it is Everyone still thinks it’s lovely

When I grow up

I want to be someone people will like

I want to be someone people can’t despise

A car, a book or a tree

But why can’t I just be me?

Why can’t people like me for me?
