What Would You Do?
By Annesha Ghosh
I sucked in
A world full of air,
As a smile creeped onto my lips,
We are finally here -
At the end of the trek
That marked the top
Of your forever bucket-list.
You are shouting, laughing,
Jumping like a kid,
Who has finally touched
The toy of her dreams.
And I can't remember,
The last time I saw you this happy.
Or maybe, I do.
Your cheeks are melting,
Into the colour
Of a thousand liquid sunsets,
And your eyes,
Those beautiful caramel eyes,
Are radiating the warmth of 24K gold.
I must be making a fool of myself.
Staring at you,
Sweating like hell!
Thanks to Anemoi (or Vayu),
Who seems to have taken a leave today,
I have someone to blame
As my perfect (nervous) excuse.
But I can't help but wonder...
What would you do
If I told you right now,
That my pocket carries
A ring, an actual ring,
That I had bought
Two years ago?
What would you do
If you knew,
That I've spent
A whole life of time
Simply, by loving you?
The connection we had
Was undeniable,
Not like the birds-flying,
Violin-playing,
Unrealistic standards,
That movies are weaponed with,
To cleanse (rather, empty) our brains!
It was like the serenity
Of a Sunday church choir,
Ringing the keys of peace,
All through our beings.
Be it silence, or a mess full of chaos,
Our eyes could complete
Each other's words.
So, what would you do
If I told you,
That you had broken my heart,
In a million wailing pieces,
Like tiny flecks of glass,
That could bleed one fine,
Without being seen?
And as my gym-buffed chest
Gasped for air that day,
I had shed happy tears,
Knowing that you had
Finally found
The "love of your life"!
But, what would you do
If you knew
That you had even
Broken my only faith left?
Just when I'd thought
A trampled heart
Could hurt no more,
It crushed from pieces
To a wisp of dust,
When it saw
Your wounded heart cry...
Although, you might say
That's what love is all about!
Breaking myself
To fix your soul...
The sun's slowly wishing
Our day farewell,
And blending, gently,
In the light of your skin.
The stars are waking up,
One by one,
Each adding to
The bright twinkle in your smile.
And I can't help but wonder...
What would you do,
If I softly tuck the hair
Behind your ears,
And bring my face
Closer to your lips?
Would you let your breath
Find home in mine?
And what would you do
If I told you,
That my pocket carries
A ring, an actual freaking ring?
And that I've finally felt warm
And even brave enough
To ask you bestie,
"Will you share your smile
And life with me?"
Then what would you do?
Let's find out...
