What Should I Write

By Ritik Gautam

What should I write? When I've nothing to write —

Inner conflict, or maybe a cyclic fight?

Maybe I can scribble the voice of a child,

Or a hovering bee near lotus-white.

A syllable for a memory — easy to recite,

Fables and parables — bedtime lullabies.

Or maybe the tale of a destitute’s gain,

Or perhaps I can pen the deepest pain.

Maybe I should write about a working man,

Painstaking — for a smile of kith and kin.

Maybe I can write about a fighter,

Who battled fiercely just to “call it a day.”

Grey skies stretched months and months —

A silver lining pierced through the kernel.

I could craft the “view” in a bird’s sight —

They say a writer can live many lives

Within a life.

Someday I’ll write everything we survive —

Praise, applause, cheers — how far we've arrived.
