What Have We Become?

Everyday I get up and feel the world has just become an iota more self-centered. Juxtapose your thoughts one after the other. Do they all tend to the direction of happiness? What we make of it relentlessly tends to pose the question; “What have we become?”

We were born in one big blob

Years passed, time withstood,

Evolved man with hands and toes

Everything hitherto was going good.

Slowly broke the pieces of land apart

Nature’s ways had its say,

Man got continents and nationalities

Rules slowly started to form this way.

Centuries and millenniums occurred

A stinging feeling started to breed,

Caste, creed, race, religion were born

Not nature, but man himself,

Succumbed to his own dirty greed.

White, black, brown, yellow,

Hindu, Muslim, Christian, Jew,

Money, power, haves and have-nots,

Slowly humanity started to grow few.

Wars waged on the poor, not poverty,

The earth became a shadow of its righteous fate,

God made man to spread love everywhere

Alas! Man made God the reason to spread hate.

I pray to you, let us never discriminate,

Albeit on religion, caste, creed, color,

Let us all live in peace together

Let us all breathe the same air forever.
