What Freedom Means To Me
By Brinda Chakraverty
Overcoming the unwelcoming demons of our mind,
To break the doors of fear, in which we were claustrophobically confined-
Rampaging through the negativity of anger and greed,
Opportunity of voicing out the thoughts of all caste and creed.
Becoming teachers, doctors, soldiers, whatever we want to:
Working in jobs, being ourselves, honest and true;
To speak words of our inner soul, to acknowledge our mortality,
Self determination to turn dreams to a possible reality-
Not being dependent, but responsible and strong-
Choosing the right, leaving the darkness of wrong
Selfish wishes and extravagant desires,
Give it up, and heaven is what one acquires.
India, was a caged golden bird,
Fog in her eyes, vision blurred-
Yet, she touched the sky,
She regrew her wings, and flew high-
This is what Freedom means to me…
