Wedding Day
By Sharon Ann Philip
She shimmered in white lace
Delicate threads sinuously wrapped her curves
The veil barring her furtive eyes
Deep breaths and twitching smiles
The minutes fragmented and time slowed
She saw everything and nothing at once
Felt just his soft touch. Rings exchanged
And vows heard. Two fates forbidden to be undone
An elegant ritual of love, they said
Or an elaborate social contract, she thought
Grand theatre for the faithful.
