Webs of What Ifs (29/05/2026)

I'm condemned to weave webs of "what ifs",

I keep myself busy, so I don't relapse.

But in the stillness of the night,

I'm bound to allow these uncertainties to collapse.

Stampedes of doubt trample me, clouds of dust obscure my vision,

I can't think straight, I'm no longer clear-minded.

I am beaten and bruised, bleeding out in the sand,

pleading for a saviour... breathless... winded.

What if I had just listened to my parents,

followed their footsteps to the future they planned?

But my feet are too small to fit in their shoes,

and my happiness is nowhere near where they stand.

Now I live as a disappointment, a selfish daughter,

I put myself first even after all their sacrifices.

My tears could fill a pool, maybe an ocean,

to them, my effort never suffices.

What if I just give up, rest my tired body,

go back home, be unemployed, possibly work a 9 to 5?

Oh, who am I kidding? They'd still be dissatisfied...

No matter what I choose, it'll never truly be my life.

I pick up my books and pursue my dreams,

because weren't they once my age?

They must've pictured a different future for themselves,

what if they had just turned that page?

Would their lives be better? Would they have been happier?

It may now be hypothetical, but it was once real.

They wouldn't pile their regret on my chest,

because their own present would be ideal.
