Waves
By Amrita Manekar
The waves crashed one after the other at my feet;
As I stood looking on for hours at the sun that is long gone.
Pausing for no one and taking the day along with it;
Leaving behind just a hint of blush as if to taunt its lover that it ever was.
The moon is our master, the waves now seemed to say;
With every ebb and every flow they pledged allegiance to this master of the dark.
And I stood there, I wondered do I have the same master as the waves;
Rising with the sun; ebbing with the moon.
Every day a constant battle and every night a constant surrender;
Just to remain the same part of the everflowing sea that is life.
Or am I worse than even the waves;
For even they find their purpose when they ultimately crash into the sand.
Long did I look on, trying to find the calm which I thought the world owed to me;
Fighting the turbulence that has for so long been a part of me.
The waves finally gave me my answer as they once more stopped to kiss my feet;
You will always be a part of the sea as so would we all.
But did anyone ever stop you from reaching your highest form;
Before you too find your calm, even if it's just for a little while.
