“I’ll Keep Waiting”

I keep waiting…

waiting in line for your return,

waiting to see if you will show up at last

in a life where all your seats have been empty.

I keep waiting…

waiting to see if, for once, you will choose me.

Choose us.

Waiting to see if, at last, you will pick up the phone

and call.

I keep waiting…

waiting for my cuts to turn into scars,

waiting for my heart to feel full at last

in a world where all I see is dark.

And I will keep waiting in line for you,

even when the night has lost its stars,

even when the sea has swallowed its tides.

I will keep waiting in line.

I don’t mind coming in last.

I don’t care about making it first.

All I care is that you find your way back to me,

that you actually show you care.

I will keep waiting in line,

this long line that keeps on turning corners,

that keeps on cutting through space.

I will save a place for you,

for your wishes and your dreams.

I will save a spot for when you want to share

your hopes and your despairs.

So, every time you tell yourself,

“It is just too late,”

just know it is not.

For I will wait in line for you

for as long as it takes.
