Vices

By Amina Nazir

I'm not brave enough to do what you do.

To confront my lungs,

expanding and collapsing.

To address my heart,

lull that vexing rhythm to a stutter.

A kind killer,

smoky swaggers,

subtle and slow.

Spinning..

tender torrents,

as you flood,

poisoning my foolish flesh.

My body, duped,

gives in,

concurs to the chosen cure.

To let you bring...

that luscious slumber,

that bittersweet end

ever closer.
