Verjaarsdagkersies

Vier kersies brand op ‘n sagte koek,

my wens is lig, my hande soek.

Die wêred voel veilig, rond en klein,

alles wat breek, sal weer heel kan verskyn.

Ses vlamme flikker, sag en skaars,

ek leer hoe stilte iets kan bewaar.

Wense word kleiner, minder hard,

sodat hoop nie breek nog voor dit waag.

Tien kersies smelt en drup verby,

was loop soos jare stil langs my.

Ek blaas te vinnig; wat as ek mis

dit wat net een keer moontlik is?

Dertien brand warmer as wat ek wil,

my hart raak swaar, my vrae raak stil.

Hoe wens ‘n mens vir iets sonder naam,

en wie hoor jou as jy self nie verstaan?

Vyftien.

Die kersies staan reg, maar iets is skeef,

die wêreld kyk terug soos iets wat niks gee.

Wanneer het sag wees begin seer maak,

en hoekom voel eerlikheid soos ‘n fout wat kraak?

Ek blaas uit sonder wens of plan,

bly staan waar die rook my oё vang.

Die koek is koud, die lig is weg,

wanneer kom als weer reg?
