Van Ghogh’s Revelation

He asked for eyes that revealed phantoms of deceit.

Now he sees nothing but the starless gloom.

He groans, growls, and weeps in agony.

The mournful malign,

Born through his keen sight,

Feeds upon his mirth.

He wanders in search of a beacon of light

That could save his pitiful life.

He believes the world is accursed

And condemns the mighty gods.

His pride has reached Olympus' peak;

He has grown narcissistic and cynical.

He yearns to trust again.

He fears losing his conscience,

But what hath been wrought cannot be unwrought.

Then the sun shone a glimmering light,

Like spring marching forth in the thaw.

The divine grace glistened in the pond.

The miasma disappeared.

In the reflection,

He saw himself.

I saw myself.

I understood:

The shadows were innocent,

For they had no say.

They were not chosen by the dawn.

Oh, I have climbed so high.

Yet the storm brewed.

And the veil reappeared

A muffled shadow, still a shadow.
