Unrequited Embers

​Deep in the dark,

unrequited embers spark-

small, silent candles blooming in the heart.

I remember them:

the souls who would never try to open their hearts

nor risk letting others pry their hearts open.

​Scarred by past storms,

we cage our chest in quiet fear,

never knowing who brings the burning hell

and who brings the gentle warmth.

​Yet in a fleeting glimpse, they flicker:

the girl across the street with the warmest smile,

the girl in class with the loudest spark,

the shy voice, brave against the dark.

​I fell in love with people I barely knew.

I never asked. I was afraid.

I just loved them softly-

and they will never know.

​Perhaps in some quiet corner, someone whispers:

that boy, a gentleman, so kind and so true…

​So when the shadows fall,

do not deny the fragile light.

Love yourself the way they love you-

love yourself... the way I do.

​For unrequited love is not in vain-

It is still love, pure and whole, burning through the rain.
