Under Winter Canopy

And the moon waned inside me

And air hung heavy from the ceiling

As I vacantly stared into the fog

Not really looking, but looking for her

At least for where I went wrong

Even though I knew there’s only so much

The past at last was too much

And like smoke from his lips

She let me go into the winter sky

And I followed the breath

To where the silhouetted teaks

Claimed it as their prerogative
