Uncertainty – Bridal Emotions

There she sat, bedecked and bejewelled

Hushed and huddled in the decorous mandap

Fraught and fragile with mounting anxiety

Her eyes cast downwards in supple timidity

The pundits chanted their mantras gaily

Relatives hovered in protective sympathy

Others gathered in the spirit of togetherness

While alone she was left with her thoughts and emotions

Shyly she glanced at him on her side

A stranger to her world not long before

Would he be the right one she needed to know?

Numerous uncertainties assailing her mind

The band played their loud noisy beats

In the note of jubilant joyous celebration

The laughter and the chatter fully betraying

The reality of her confusion and her fears

But once the garlands exchanged one another

The mangalsutra tied to symbolize an eternal bond

She knew and realized there was no turning back

And in silent compliance her fears died down
