Twenty-Two
By Anisha
When ephemeral joys last a lifetime
And flow out through your eyes like a stream,
You often wonder how this all happened,
How this all happened so suddenly
That you couldn't even differentiate
between the memories and the moments.
There was a time when the streetlights were silent,
But now they're full of songs–
Songs they wrote on you, for you.
Back then, they used to be just streetlights.
Now, they're part of your festivity.
They dance with joy today
Because they've found you,
And they've found
their celebration in you.
The night loves her moon and stars,
But she loves you more now,
'cause she loves the midnight musings
you secretly write for her,
And she loves you for being you,
For being the moonlight for the hearts,
Where her celestial friends failed to reach.
There was a time when
you thought of the universe,
But now it thinks of you,
It dances in you, It sings in you,
It rejoices in you, It celebrates you,
And when you see this magic
unfolding in you, you may know,
that now you're twenty-two,
And not just an ordinary twenty-two,
But a magical girl who truly lives her life,
And has lived magical years
which count to twenty-two,
and there's one more thing to remember,
Stay the lovely girl you are,
And know that we always love you.
