Twenty-Something
By Shaily Singh
Deciding between fitting-in and standing-out,
In the ring with life for a wrestling bout
Looking for happiness in every person we meet
Only to realize that we are the happiness we seek!
Falling and failing and in constant unrest
Yet waking up everyday to give our best.
Living our lives in tweets, likes and follows,
Clinging onto our childhood in nostalgic wallows.
The rulers of our own little universe
Penning down our rules in a broken verse;
The impulsive decision-makers,
The explorers and risk-takers,
The breaker of hearts and bearer of broken ones
Old enough to make the right choices, young enough to make the wrong ones.
The ones who are selfish with our time,
Who don't like whiskey but can't afford wine!
Free like the showers of the first rain,
Struggling to balance between pain and gain,
Flavored like the recipe of a new cook,
Frayed like the pages of an old book.
Silly and stupid and wild and crazing
We are, what you call, twenty-something!
