At the very core

Of all self-understanding

As we move inwards

From the external world

To our very own internal world

The truth of who we really are

Might be all dressed up

Heavily painted and made over

But it is still our very own skin

For as long as we live

We must develop the ability

To be constantly aware of ourselves

To regain that objective distance

Needed to prevent getting lost

In the movie of life

And as we peel back layer upon layer

Of our defenses

To access our inner authentic self

The truth of who we really are

Is what will finally set us free
