Traveling Two Roads

I ask myself again if this isn't the time

for me to walk away

and for you to see me go

If this isnt the time when

I want you to hear the heavy tread loud and clear

My footsteps cracking on the asphalt

Clamorous like the shattered cries of our unshared dreams

I read you through your eyes

I see the weight of a thousand lies

in the slump of your shoulders

As you travel two roads at the same time

If only I could let you see yourself through my eyes

But an empty spool needs no unraveling

I know it’s time now

You beg and plead and say all the right things

Empty euphony of the beating wings of a listless lark

I take the first step out

Eyes wide open
