Tragedy
The conditions I saw my people
Traveling in on that boat broke me
Persons were laying there in cramped spaces
Cause they all wanted to get home
And it was an affordable route
Why are the regular citizens being treated like this?
The big boys and girls would never sit through such
You would never see them sitting on a boat
That is leaking- eventually overturning
The way we witnessed the Titanic ship-that sank
I feel it for those whose loved ones
Were washed away into the ocean
Those kids- some of them were just babies
The pain their mothers are going through is surely unbearable
My heart bleeds and breaks for them altogether
A boat which was much safer and possessed better hygienic conditions- was used to host a cruise
While those whom were simply trying to get home or to their businesses were left to use a boat which had already outlived it’s life
They claim they care- but is this the way someone shows that they do?
This is a dark time we’re living in
The country was declared three days of national mourning- but how are we actually mourning?
It’s business as usual cause how am I suppose to mourn while I’m at work?
This is definitely the survival of the fittest mantra we are living in- in this country
Note: In memory of the victims of the MV Barima which sank en route to North West, Guyana, July 18, 2026
