Tonight, Soft And Only

Such evenings as this one

Are not made on Earth

Although they are for it

No, they are born with the stars

Scrolls of creation, older than days

I drink in a chapter, feel empty again

The chapter of this night – this sky

Now in music engraved

All I hear is two heartbeats in one

Strums of life against a dead howl

Soothe a warming in the livid cold

No grains of sand slay us buried

In its dunes, nature has scratched

A million forks, countless turns

Both seeing and blind, narrow and wide

Bridges to cross – but we chose to swim

Time takes no heed if it is not paid any

Pushed behind curtains of ink, into the light

The lovely dark has taken turn to shimmer

Blessed with a close and flourishing the start

Peace glows with skeletal pallor

Ushered into the night’s refuge

Presents of rest, honor, and sate

We pass over its portion, welcomed alive

A burning tail tears through blue

No prayer rang, only two smiles

Like that of the moon in its new,

Unnoticed, unseen – full in bloom

Wrathful lightning soon may strike

Or fleets may rip apart this life

What could have been – what we could have seen

Everything asleep one chartered night
