Tolerate it

Demi Sasha Arendse

I cannot crawl, walk or climb-inescapable.

My body feels anchored by life’s malignancy.

I try to create a sign-of helplessness, but

acceptance is far from me.

Inevitable, all consuming, tormenting and

suffocating. It clings until all I feel is it’s nothingness.

I want to feel something that is not this black pit inside

of me-its emptiness.

It holds me firmly in ways that I have never been held

before-its motherliness, and calamitously,

as if I were caved in my father’s love.

Acceptance is in me, but not of things that I lack,

My acceptance lies within the things that I endure,

It becomes all I tolerate, more and more.
