To Say Or Not To Say

By Aashna Shah

Why do we seldom say what's on our mind?

Are we afraid that the recipient won't be too kind?

Or are we scared of own our thoughts?

Is it proof of an internal battle fought?

Or is it just that we know we won't get what we want?

And sometimes our vulnerability has just been faced with taunts.

Is the world so cruel that staying within our walls is a better option?

That we calculate every step and tread with caution.

Has everyone been so ruthless in life that there hasn't been a relief?

That in entire mankind we have lost belief

And just sometimes our gamble pays off when we take a leap.

Someone understands our soul and is there when we weep.

It’s a rarity for sure to find a person with whom you can be frank.

Never having to question where in their life you rank.

But it's still scary especially since you have been burnt enough.

And letting go of the inhibitions are really tough.

So, wear the mask, but remember to remove it in front of at least a few.

Else wearing it forever will make you forget the essence of you.
