To My Black People

We may be bound today- but even chains

carry the memory

of breaking.

Do not mistake this moment for the end.

What we endure now

is shaping

what we will become.

Oppression may press-

but it does not define.

For no one truly knows freedom without first feeling

its absence.

Look at history-

how pain has always

given birth

to rising.

So stand,

even when weary.

Hope,

even when broken.

For the light we strain to see now will one day

shine through us-

across nations,

across tribes,

across generations.

Yes-

today we labour.

Today we carry weight.

But the stripes we bear,

the tears that fall-

are not wasted.

They are water

seeping into the soil

of tomorrow-

growing

greener futures.

So cry,

if the burden is heavy.

Let it fall.

Even tears

have purpose-

they prepare the ground.

And when we arrive

at our place-

our Canaan-

let us not become

what wounded us.

For as it is said:

“The best revenge

is to be unlike the one

who caused the injury.”

I speak not above you-

but among you.

Not as a ruler,

but as a voice

rising with yours.

For we are not just a people in pain-

we are a people

in becoming.
