To be free

Original Submission by Sheranga Ranasinghe

To be free

When I am

On my own

I hear myself breathe

When I am

Surrounded by trees

I hear the breeze

Swinging through

The leaves,

Going on a

Journey

Seeking

Searching

On the edge

Of the river

I can hear the flow

Reaching

Clapping against

The mud, the sand

The roots and edges

Mesmerizing

These sounds

Are

I regained

Faith

In the calmness

The solitude

As the water

And I became

One

As I danced to

The beat of the wind

To find

A freedom

Long off

the cities coast

I found myself

Unshackled

Among the

Water ways

Under the looming

Shadows

Of the White Marudah Trees

There is a comfort

That speaks

To the human heart

A silent melody

That lulls us

I shall

Return

Someday

To seek

Peace

In those

Moments

Seeking

That tranquillity

I will

Be led by desire

To be one

With the earth

The trees

The water

And sky

I will

Come seeking

A place

To live

To be free
