Titanic
By Jyotsna Giridharan
The Titanic set on its maiden motion
From Southampton on the tranquil ocean.
Two thousand passengers all cramped in
Aboard the luxurious, royal titan.
Held by iron, built with steel,
No saline malign could corrode its keel.
Blazed with four funnels
No one knew it spelt trouble
RMS set sail on April’s eve.
Cheers and beers for four days straight
Drunken lads after lasses for old Pete’s sake
All these scenes marked the great await
Of the unforeseen night, which will break.
At two twenty, on the fifteenth
Titanic hit a bergy bit.
Fear rose over the Atlantic
And everyone went frantic.
Smith and his crew tried to find order
But can that be? With a big brew of disorder?
The royal, majestic riveted vessel
Was unfolding now like loose tassels.
One sixty ticks it took,
For the ship to break in two.
Thank God few escaped
On lifeboats that were supposed to remain draped.
But thousand five hundred drank the cold waters,
Thousand five hundred souls underwater.
Can you imagine their sight before they died?
How they perished? How hellish!
