Thoughts Of You At Tea
By Desiree Marisa Fernandes
I return from work
To see for miss calls and messages
As I scroll on my phone
Its emptiness being alone.
My wishful thinking goes into an overdrive
Curdling up scary emotions
The long distance stretches even harder
Snapping me from going much further.
From friendly jibes and banter
To the occasional tiffs that interspersed
As the teapot set aflame
I wonder if I was to blame.
The tea leaves merged in boiling water
And its aroma and warmth rented the air
Tantalizing me in a curious way
Leaving me bereft of wanting more to say.
Dissipating through a watery hole
It wends its way in the cuppa
As I caress it with nimble fingers
The thoughts of you begin to linger.
Oh! The first slurry sip
Cautioned me to discern tongue tied
That how in a fit of fiery rage
Could you decide to start over a new page ?
Did the sweetness not measure up ?
Did it dilute into a pale tinge ?
Gripped in a static cold state
As I recall you leave through that gate.
