this heart

To some degree, perfectionism is

unattainable.

How do others

possess this quality, then?

The shower seems to be a place

where these thoughts frequent me,

so much so that I do not remember

the lathers and soaps

and suds.

No, I am my worst critic,

this I know.

I cannot tell if this is comforting.

It sure feels like torture.

I hate myself to a level.

I hate that there are human qualities

I will never master,

while the rest of the world

seems to have been born

with this gift.

Speech

and bureaucracy

and sociability.

I am no less than a failure, Lord.

What good does a soft heart serve?

Besides being easily bruised

and dented?

This inflated, almost massive trait

of self-awareness

is poison.

If my mind is a prison,

however will I

keep living?
