Thinking Of You When The Laburnum Blooms In The City
By Rituranjan Gogoi
Quietly the laburnum flames have spread across the city,
Narrow lanes, busy avenues,
Luminous gold of dizzying softness,
Like the flash of a smile in your eyes,
Kohl-limned, dreaming of gloomy skies
shedding its cloak of tears,
And, you gaze at those sunny blossoms
Drooping, drenched
Every time you forget to bring an umbrella;
It seems as if the life of a brief summer stolen
clings to your look;
Lazy afternoons of grace and resentment,
Windy monsoons making a home within you;
This I can see and feel, sometimes glimpse
silent lightnings, mnemonic, sad, and weary
like falling leaves, autumnal,
Caressing the shadows around you,
While your sighs wander around the blooming clusters
like lonely kisses,
And, as if a thousand golden chandeliers
bursts into delicate light,
I look at you;
You lost in the shine of yellow flowers,
I become the tree myself,
Rooting in you;
Making incandescent blossoms,
And, this seasonal agony is all I wait for
calmly, in yearning,
Living for a day in your eyes,
Dying for a day in your eyes!
