THINGS I LEFT BEHIND

Growing up is not a door

that suddenly swings open wide.

It is the slow disappearance

of things you thought would always stay by your side.

A smaller hand inside your own,

a room that once felt wide,

a childhood hiding in old photographs

you never knew you'd leave behind.

Perhaps growing is simply this-

learning to miss what made you whole,

while making room for something new

inside the shape of your old soul.
