Their Love Story

Their love started with fighting over circuits

In the electrical lab in their engineering college,

They were both nerds who knew nothing but

How to get straight As and how to gain knowledge.

Their love was not love at first sight

But they fell for each other with each passing day,

Fate had brought them together at the same place

And their feelings were too hard to keep at bay.

At first everything was so magical

They kept talking for all their waking hours,

But they knew not how to talk

About the feelings they had for each other.

Finally, she took matters into her own hands

And told him everything she felt about him,

That she wanted more than just friendship

Without ruining “the thing” they had between them.

And so, it started, their journey of love

They never went to any “official” date

They held hands and went on walks

And thanked God that they had met.

They worked together on assignments

They helped each other to study,

That one could not be seen without the other

Was the common opinion of everybody.

Everyone said they were meant for each other

Both socially shy but smart creatures,

Their intellect had brought them close

Not their physical attributes or bodily features.

But it was their IQ that was the cause

Of the eventual doom of their relationship,

They started competing over who got better grades

And who could crack the better internship.

There is no couple who does not fight

They too fought and caused themselves pain,

But eventually they took more and more time

To resolve their differences and be the same again.

Until one day they both realized

They did not complement each other,

They were too similar and looking at each other

They felt like they were looking at a mirror.

They were too competitive to celebrate each other’s success,

They were too stubborn to compromise,

They were too egoistic to take the blame,

They were too arrogant to sacrifice.

Eventually love turned into hatred and anger

Eventually “us” turned into “me”

They could not stand any more of each other

And all they wanted was to be free.

They broke off all means of contact

They cursed God that they had met,

They went too far away from each other

On different roads as decided by fate.

But they could not forget it was their first love,

They both lost a piece of their heart for ever,

Secretly they missed “the thing” they had between them

Although both claimed to have forgotten the other.

Life went on uninterrupted and smooth

Both of them achieved tons of success,

But in spite of having everything in life

They failed to buy true love and happiness.
