The Yellow Town
By Sulagna Bhattacharyya
Word was in town
Someone's bike was stolen;
I was walking down the lane and snap!
My shoestrap flies open!
Stranded as I was trying to fix my shoe, Comes in a dog and tells me, "Hey you!"
Like Alice followed the rabbit, I followed the little one too.
Out of nowhere there's a whirlwind
And right into it, I almost flew.
Stranger as it got, my mind stopped to work Suddenly I was in a yellow town and I began to lurk. Houses of strange hues, amusing, all of them; I walked through all the turns and corners, discovering shiny gems.
The air smelled so sweet, my heart brimmed with joy, What was this new chirpy me?
Faded was the me who used to be so coy. Sweet little nothings floated around, with pups following for treats.
Carts sold delights that tasted like heaven, People here wore their hearts on their sleeves. ...
My dear Yellow Town, how you have been my retreat, my solace, my comfort, my place to keep everything bittersweet.
Yellow Town, you are gorgeous in your own quirky way,
Yellow Town, thank god for that little pup that once came and said hey!
