The World We Leave Behind

The world we breathe and walk upon,

The truths we know that will live on.

The sins we saw and strolled along,

The facts we shut, for debts to prolong.

The rustle of the papers,

The sharpness of the words,

The wind that scattered the lines,

The calmness that mend the mind.

Diminishing rays of the sinking light,

The false scars on all that is right.

As the sun shines on winters night,

Words are etched on a bold new sight.

The system, the politics we defend,

Where right and wrong too often bend.

Rules are forgotten while money sings,

And silence crowns corrupted kings.

Let truth and hope light the flame,

Beyond the guilt, beyond the blame.

Let our words outlive the years to come,

Before we see what we’ve become.
