The Weight Of Regret
By Syed Mohammad Ismail Quli
If I could turn back the hands of time,
And undo the mistakes that were mine,
I'd rewrite the story of our love's decline,
And hold you close, forever intertwined.
I regret the words I spoke in haste,
That cut deep and left our love debased,
And the actions that left our love misplaced,
Leaving us in a world of pain and distaste.
Oh, how I long to fix what's broken,
To mend our love that was once a token,
But now it seems like a dream unspoken,
As the memory of our love leaves me heartbroken.
I wish I could go back and make it right,
To hold you close and never let you out of sight,
To love you fiercely both day and night,
And to never let our love out of sight.
But now our love is a thing of the past,
Leaving me with a heart that's overcast,
And the pain of a love that couldn't last,
As I try to move on but my heart is steadfast.
So here I am, with a heart full of pain,
Trying to make sense of what's left to gain,
And wishing I could go back again,
To fix the mistakes and love you all over again.
