The Wait
By Sanjana Kodical
Oh the sweet teenage spirit of rebellion
Never had you suited anyone worse
Basking in the comforting frivolity
I did not realise that you would one day become my greatest curse
For she would have tended to me
Broken, scarred or damaged... As long as I was alive
Selfishly I had, strayed far too away
until she became skin and bones..
Lying on the hospital bed that felt like a gyve
Once a symbol of strength, had now crumbled
With each breath that she drew...
Life seemed to slip away, as she had waited almost forever..
for the daughter she thought she knew
