The Voice Within
By Aarushi Dilliwal
Cacophony of thoughts in my head,
Paralysing my mind,
The tightness in my chest,
Keeping me in a bind.
I close my ears,
To shut down the noise,
Eyes teared,
After hearing the voice.
Telling me I am a failure,
A good for nothing,
Towards the dark road they lure,
Leading to a coving.
There was a cage,
Created by my doubts and insecurities,
Somewhat blurred by the haze,
Of positivity.
But it was there nevertheless,
Sitting inside was my look-alike,
Staring at me from the depths,
Of my own tartarus.
I called for her,
She blinked, looked at me with a pleading in her eyes,
To her suffering,
And all these lies.
I couldn't do anything to help her,
Because she was trapped in her mind,
A beacon of hope she needed,
To end her plight.
She saw something that I didn't see,
A person standing with me,
With the torch of hope, some kind words,
To set her free.
Her pleading eyes turned hopeful again,
The light was back,Silencing her brain,
Those woeful thoughts,
Now almost naught.
She approached the bars,
Binding her in,
He saw all the scars,
That used to glint.
He moved forward to aid her, but realised
The only one with the key was she,
Who was trapped,
With her heart hurt and chapped.
He encouraged her with kind words,
To break free,
Some she heard,
It was the push she need.
The bars were broken,
Her heart was healed,
She embraced him as a token,
As now she could at last breath
Liberated from those binding thoughts,
Their clutching clout,
She was happy again,
Absolved from the pain.
