The Twelve Apostles
By Kanyaka Jena
Standing at the end of the viewpoint, where it inched onto the ocean,
I glimpsed at the unending ocean ahead.
Seven large and mighty pillars of limestone,
Graced the windswept coastline.
Reaching up to an height of 45m,
They stood unflinched,
Watching the waves crash among themselves,
And admiring the dark blue ocean,
Which covered the vast expanse,
And finally met the sky at the horizon.
Suddenly a mighty wave,
Head crashed into two pillars,
Creating a loud roaring sound,
Sprinkling some salty ocean water on us.
The sun, being chased by the clouds
was running for shelter at the horizon.
In a bid to escape,
The sun casted the sky with hues of red, orange and pink,
The drifting clouds created the patterns and rays.
We stood there, enjoying the gentle breeze,
Watching the waves play with the seven apostles left. **
(**The twelve apostles is a popular tourist destination located at the Great Ocean Road, Australia. The continuous erosion by the ocean water has caused the apostles to erode, crack and fall into the ocean. Now only seven remain, one of which is eroding fast and may fall into the waves anytime soon in future.)
