The Turkey Tale.

There once was a turkey called Tum,

Who most people thought was quite dumb,

“But I haven’t been beaten,

And I haven’t been eaten,

So, I must be quite clever,” thought he,

The silly and conceited turkey.

“I’m also quite handsome,” thought he,

The vain and shallow turkey.

“What I’d really like to try,

Is to be able to fly,

Up onto a tall tree,

The highest one that I can see.”

Tum huffs, puffs and heaves,

But he can’t even reach the lowest leaves.

A bull in a nearby field,

Laughed, cried and squealed,

“That’s so funny to see,

A fat, flightless turkey.”

“It’s not fair!” shouted the Turkey,

“Why? Why? Why me?”

“I think I know something that will work,”

Said the bull with a smirk,

“If you eat my droppings, all day long,

It will make you very strong,

And soon you will be,

Sitting on top of the tree.”

“But be careful,” said the bull with glee,

“When sitting on top of the tree.”

“My enemies will see me sing,

And they will know that I am king!

Nothing possibly can happen to me.”

Said conceited Tum the turkey.

Each day Tum ate cow droppings,

And exercised his tiny wings.

Every meal he ate cow poo,

and each day he flew and flew.

Finally, Tum flew to the top of the tree,

And sang loudly at what he could see.

The sneaky bull roared, and shook his head,

And out came the farmer and shot Tum dead.

The moral of the story? – should you care,

Bullshit might get you to the top, but it won’t keep you there!
