The Trek
By Kanyaka Jena
Donning our best-looking tracksuits, we started.
Up we climbed on the path filled with pebbles,
Slipping every now and then.
On the right flowed the raging river,
Rushing over every boulder in its path.
To the left was the smooth sides of the hill,
Cut to make the path.
Dark clouds peeped at us ominously from behind the hills
Lighting our path with startling lights.
The gentle breeze was playing with the plants.
A hawk soared overhead.
Sudden bursts of cold winds, blew occasionally
Making us shudder.
En route, the waterfall passing on the road
Made the leaves look fresh and happy
And cleaned every dirt in its way.
We continued the ascend, sparkle in our eyes
To witness the scenery.
Few bare trees leaned on the side.
The birds flew homeward.
The sun bid goodbye in its brightest colours.
The wave like clouds, sprinkled with purple,
Enhanced the view.
The view was indeed surreal.
