The Tree Outside My Window

There is a tree outside my window

that has watched me growing old.

It knew me when my hands were small,

before my dreams were told.

Each year it loses all its leaves

and somehow blooms again.

I wonder if it ever fears

the coming of the rain.

And still it stands, unhurried, sure-

as seasons come and go,

teaching me in quiet ways

what only time can know.
