The Sun and Moon have eyes
In the farthest dawn of time
before any life or light,
when earth was a barren rock
and sky was a boundless night,
the angels of creation
sculpted a king and queen,
molded from the heavens and earth,
and everything in between.
The king was forged in bright flames,
every pore bursting with light,
and when he sat on his throne
he banished the dark night.
But due to his glaring power,
he was blind and without eyes,
he would scorch the land sometimes,
and fires would blackout the skies.
The queen on the other hand
was fully dotted with eyes,
she had vision and ideas,
she conjured the seas and tides.
She guided the king’s golden rays
and the earth flourished in green,
but the days were endless
and she always remained unseen.
As time went on, earth bloomed,
the plants and animals thrived,
they began to sing prayers
to he that powers their lives.
Slowly the moon was ignored,
forgotten and left alone,
the blind king worshipped by all,
she’s the shadow of his throne.
She began to weep quietly,
and no one heard her cries,
her tears filled up the oceans
and her sighs whipped up the tides.
All life on earth under sea,
the king helpless on his feet,
leaps to rescue his subjects,
but falls to drown in defeat.
When the angels cleared the floods,
and burnt the king back to life,
they took away the queen’s eyes,
to prevent any future strife.
Her eyes were scattered as gifts,
to all creatures thereafter,
the royal couple took turns,
and shined with love and laughter.
Though her scars still remain,
she shines at night, sublime,
her beauty fosters poets,
her cycles gently trace time.
The king gets jealous sometimes,
though he radiates life and light,
people notice and smile when
he slowly sets out of sight.
Though without rays of her own,
the queen is happy to whirl,
a dancer in the spotlight,
she is the night’s glowing pearl.
She’s the oracle of romance,
the temple where lovers meet,
only she knows what it means,
to be whole yet incomplete.
