The Sound Of Silence

She sat still.

Her eagerness long lost,

her eyes fixed & moist-

Like the winter frost!

Head bowed down,

she gazed into a hollowness.

Mrs Jen called aloud-

"Brownie! Where's my baby?"

She leaped & spruced,

as happy as she ever was!

For, it was her favourite rhyme -

that spoke of a love unsung.

Loaded with kibbles,

the bowl was waiting for her.

Mrs Jen bent down-

receiving Brownie's habitual lick!

A spruce & few roundabouts -

a ritual, prior to her meal!

She waged her tail,

sitting next to Mrs Jen -

where she knit the woolen yarn,

on her rocky chair.

Days painted this picture;

A canvas familiar to the bypassers.

The canvas was never the same,

paint was swept across shores of loss.

The rocky chair stood still.

So did Brownie.

Drowning her deep-

into a sea of Silence!

Loneliness that drew them close;

A bond spelled right,

with no words!

Absence seeded loneliness,

rooting depths of loss,

as it grew with days passing by!

Happiness halted.

The absence starved her;

Not the empty bowl.

Awaiting the end,

she lay motionless -

Lost like she never was.
