The Silence Between Us

At first it felt strange,

This silence between us.

It needed to be filled

With words and all the fuss.

Then it felt like home.

This silence between us.

Like a night spent under

The stars, in a cozy blanket thus.

After a fight, it felt strained,

This silence between us.

Like the things we never told each other,

Things, we needed to discuss.

When you left it felt cold.

This silence between us.

Like a broken glass bottle

Or iron ore which rusts.

Now it feels necessary

This silence between us.

One glance here and there

Suddenly words have become superfluous.
