The Shadows and I

By Gracelyn N. Rose

The shadows surround me

The darkness closes in

The twilight night

Counters the bright light

Locked in tight

What a sight

I'm on display for all to see

Me and my memories.

I reconcile what has been lost

But what was the cost?

My memories are shaken

But nothing is forsaken.

Me and the shadows

We meet in the meadows

Under the willows

Their green leaves

Sway in the breeze.

The sun goes dark

Like the bark

Of the willow we sit beneath

I hear a sound

And look around

A sword unsheathed

I turn to see

And pointed at me

Is the sword

But it is not a sword

It is the shadows

Coming to get me

The shadows surround me

Locked in tight

There is no light

It's just the shadows and I.
