The Rose, The Violin And You
By Subhagata Chowdhury
The white rose bled deep from its wound
Curled up, hushed- like living in a womb.
Grasping for silence and peace as it dies
Masking the pain with smiles and lies.
The rose in me keeps withering away
Petals fall apart- the white turns gray.
Coercing the petals on, burn away life
The stem has been cleft- ending the strife.
The violin lets out an agonizing shriek
Chords unloved, rise and fall like a freak.
Like a song of a madman listless and wavering
The strings tear off, the bow clamoring.
The wild cacophony torments my soul
Asphyxiating- “It’s beautiful”, I drawl.
The strings finally are all undone now
The bow hair is shredded, breaking the vow.
Your memories still strangle me every night
Still in my heart but gone from my sight.
The world revolves in an obscure monotony
To live or love? Split in a dichotomy.
Heaven knows what I’d give to see you again
Let the world be damned, douse me in pain.
Then I will watch the world burn without you-
Decayed is the rose, broken is the violin and I…lost you!
