The Quiet Sickness
By Linu Job Gaurav
What rocked our silent worlds?
without even dropping a hint,
It crept out from a testing ground,
And travelled across the globe.
A tiny little being,
That naked eye can’t see,
It’s moved humankind,
The quiet sickness that is.
Running around for a cure,
And then shutting in to be safe.
But, just need a vent,
To slowly float in.
So silent is its entry,
That we hardly feel it’s in,
But in a span of mere few days,
It brings a party in.
While the quiet sickness builds,
the eerie things begin,
the internal war that swings,
as heat it transmits.
The weeklong fight that runs,
Where only one side wins,
The bout that’s only seen,
When testing does proceed.
Some win the first round through,
And walk out just as cool,
But for those who fail the test,
to the hospice beds confine.
The quiet sickness swells,
Laughs and sneers at the spells,
that the tiring warriors cast,
Until they dwindle and rest.
As quiet as it comes,
Quietly it takes,
The souls that give in.
And the ones that battle on,
The stronger they do win,
Coz quiet as it is,
the fight’s always within.
