The Promise Of Forever
By Syed Mohammad Ismail Quli
We once made a promise, you and I,
To love each other till the day we die,
To hold each other close and never lie,
And to never let our love ever run dry.
But now that promise is broken and gone,
Leaving me with a heart that's forlorn,
And the pain of a love that's torn,
Leaving me wondering what went wrong.
The memories of our love still remain,
A reminder of a love that was once sustained,
But now they bring only sorrow and pain,
As I try to forget but in vain.
Oh, how we dreamed of a forever love,
A love that would rise and never be shoved,
But now it's just a memory of a lost dove,
A love that we never could fully glove.
So here I am, with a broken heart,
Trying to make sense of a love torn apart,
As I grapple with the pain and depart,
Wondering if our love was doomed from the start.
But even though our love is now no more,
The memory of it I'll always adore,
And I'll keep the promise that we swore,
To love you forever, even if you're no more.
