The Price
By Ann K George
We’re now weeping o’er our ill-fate,
As we have to stagger through this phase.
But ain’t we reasoning o’er this too late?
For now we’re bound to run this race.
Our ploys have taken ourselves here,
To wiggle and fight to come past this pain.
Now all that besieges us is peril and fear,
And we’re to endure it all, be it in vain.
We’d clutched the world into our palm,
And seized all that our callous eyes have found.
And now no more the earth can stay calm,
For it’s time we pay the price we’ve abound.
Now it’s revoking the lives it’d mould,
For some space it’d been seeking to respire.
And now we are told to not even hold,
Our dearest close whilst our burning desire.
Oh! Look, how we are ensnared in this pile,
Squirming hard to move from left to right.
Hadn’t we played so far this devious wile,
We’d be at once holding ourselves tight.
